NOTES BY DEMON.

As space is of extra value this week my notes shall be short. The first thing of importance in the cycling world is the forthcoming Championship meeting to be held at Carisbrook grounds on January b and 7 next. At this meeting it is expected that riders from all parts of the colony will compete, and as this meeting is looked upon as the principal cycling event of the year, I appeal to the general public of town and country to second the efforts ot the committee, and by making a point of attending the meeting in large numbers, make the meeting something to be talked of and looked back upon with pleasure. The working committee are doing their share or the work in a praiseworthy manner, and look to the public for that support which this animal race meeting deserves. Already there are competitors from a distance -on their way to take part in the racing. Wally Kerr, the champion amateur cyclist of New South Wales, a rider who by his out and out good riding and pleasant manner has won the hearts of those m New South Wales and Christchurch who haye seen him race, has just arrived in Christchurch, where he takes part in * the Pioneer Bicycle Club's meeting, afterwards journeying here to meet the best of the New Zealand riderß in the Championship events. Mr E. Reynolds, an Auckland rider, has by recent trials proved himself a flyer, aud the local cycling club sends him down to the Championship meeting as the Auckland representative. He takes part in the Christchurch meeting on Boxing Day and then comes on to Dunedin. Quite a number of riders are coming down from Christchurch, and the Timaru, Oamaru, and the Taieri Clubs will be represented. Next week, when the entries close, I hope to be in a position to give more information about the different competitors. . ' At a general meeting of the Dunedin Cycling Club, held on Thursday evening, Mr F. J. Stilling m the chair, Mr A. G. Melville was unanimously elected captain of the club. The chairman mentioned that the work in connection with the Championship meeting on 6th and 7th January next was progressing favourably, and from correspondence received there was every prospect of good entries for the different events— open and championship. The appointment of a handicapper was referred to the committee. During the coming holidays wheelmen will be found in various places. Rumour says some dozen or so are going to Oamaru, many will doubtleßS visit the spots of interest on the south, road, while not a few, clinging to old custom, are locking forward to the family reunion at this festive season. Wheresoeer they may be found, the sincere wish of "Demon" is that both they and his readers may spend a bright and Merry Christmas.
