Yule Tide.— Mr W. J. Prictor, North East Valley, sends us a copy of this annual, which is now published by the well-known firm of Cassell and Co. The leading feature of the number is a copiously illustrated sketch eutitled " The New Babylon ; or the Dream, the Demolition, and the Democracy "—a title indicative of the nature of the contents of the paper. A chromo-lithograph, "The Rose, the Th'stle, and the Sha -Brock" accompanies the annual, each nationality being represented by a young girl decorated with a typical emblem. Summer and Christmas numbers of the Home illustrated papers are well worth preserving with a view to having them bound into a substantial volume so soon as a sufficient number are saved.
Dr Lemon, Superintendent of Telegraphs, will retire next year on a pension, after 30 years' service. It is not yet known who will succeed him, but Mr Bold is next in seniority in Dr Lemon's special branch of the department— the electrical one.
