SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The regular monthly meetiug of the School CommisEionerß of Otago waa held on Monday. Present— Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), Hon. W. H. Reynolds, and Messrs Thomas Deuniatou, J. Green, and J Walker Bain. The teuder of D Ochrane of 5s per annum for the lease of section 7, block XXXIII, Lawfenco, and 33 pur annum for section 3, block XXX, Lawrence, was accepted. The tender of Robert Robertson of 5s per annum for the leafce of section 3, block XXII, Lawreuce, was also accepted. An area comprising about 7£ acres, situated between sections 11 and 12, block I, Waikaia, was leased to G. M. Hunt at £1 10s per annum under yearly tenancy. An application was received from the Southland County Council for a subsidy of pound for pound towards road construction in blocks VII and VIII, Wendonside ; blocks VIII and iX, Wendon; blocks 111, X, and XI, Wendon ; and block XI, Greeuvale.— lt was resolved that the subsidy asked for to the amount of £257 10s

be paid on the completion of the work specified, dud to inform the council that the commissioners would be prepared to subsidise necessary road making in the Ofcama block as described in tho report of Mr M'Doilald, the commissioners' agent at luvercragill, to the extent pf £100 and £50. .. An application was received from R. Dickie for a roadline through section 1, block 111, Tnturau. — Consideration of tho matter was deferred.

An application was received from Messrs B. and J. S. Vail for a renewal of coal license. — The license was granted for one year at the current rate (£5). An application was received from E. K. Alexander and'M. Heenan, Hokonui, to lease section 558.— As the section is not vested in the commissioners biit Is a sohool site, the applicants were referred to tho Ofcago Education Board.

A report from the agent was received in reference to sections at Invercargill and Lumsden, the leases of which expire on the 29 th. The inspector suggested that the re-leasing be deferred until the month of April next.— The suggestion was approved on condition that the tenants pay rent until tho dato of oale. An application from Mr A. H. Kempthorno (for whom Mr A. O. Martin appeared]) to cut timber on run 202, Waikaka, was declined, as tho commissioners considered it possible that they would require tho bush for tho use of sottlers on their own lands.

Accounts amounting to £24 12s 3d wore passed for payment.
