RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

V.R.C. WINTER MEETING. Second Day July 16. For the concluding day's racing of the V.R.C. Winter meeting the weather was cold and threatening. The following are the results : — OPEN HURDLES, About two miles. Kimberley, 11.11 1 Buttons,9.lo 2 Pioneer, 10.3 •» Twenty-one horses started. Won easily, "ffime, 3min 52sec. Redleap, 13.3 [inc. 101b penalty] (Cox) 1 Confidence, 10.10 (Reed) 2 Wellington, 11.5 (Keating) 3 The other starters were :— Blister, Shanks, The Duke, Egyptian, Schoolboy, Beggar Boy, Edmond, -Macduff, Jack's the Lad, Rufus, Boulevard, Rob 3loy, Freeman, and Harry Auhl. The betting was : 9 to 2 agst Redleap, 6 to 1 ■Boulevard, 6 to 1 Freeman, 12 to 1 Beggar Boy. i Freeman, Wellington, and Harry Auhl were first away, and led past the stand, followed by Ledleap and Jack's tns Lad. Egyptian was at the head of affairs as they took the first jump by the riverside, but here he came to grief ; and Freeman fell at the next obstacle, but was remounted. Harry Auhl, Jack's tho Lad, and Cocoauut found the next fence too stiff for them, and each came a cropper. Schoolboy then took up the running and led past the bridge, but at the sheds he gave way to Rob Roy, who had as his closest attendants Schoolboy, The Duke, and Redleap in the order mentioned. Blister now came to grief, and at the first jump in the straight The Duke turned a somersault. Rob Roy was in front as the field swept past the stand in the second round, with Schoolboy, Redleap, Beggar Boy, Wellington, and Confidence well up, Freeman tailing off last. By the riverside Rob Roy and Schoolboy were racing together, with the favourite in a good position fourth. At the bridge Redleap put in his claim and challenged Rob Roy for command. Here Rufus fell. At the sheds Redleap drew clear of JRob Roy, and Confidence made a forward Wellington at the same time setting ►aut in pursuit. The favourite, however, came .on full of running, and, fencing well, never left .-the issue in doubt, and won comfortably ; seven between second and third. Time, <6min 45^ sec. JULY HANDICAP.
