LATE MINING.
THB CBOMWBLL GOLD OOM.PANY.
Mr Hoaking( mine manager) reports 'for the fortnight ended 13th as follows : — " I Lave the honour to report that early in last week we got a large influx of water in the 520 ft oroßscut, which taxed our machinery almost to its utmost to keeu the water in fork. The stream is now considerably abated, and possibly It may soon drain. The took in the oroisout has been hard for the past eight days ; but notwithstanding this and the quantity of water to contend with, 10ft has been driven, making the total distance 37ft. We have, aho driveu Bft on the course of the vein intersected in the ground, and expeot to cut into and take it down in a day or two. At present the Indications for gold are similar to those vif ible at the commencement of the drive. We cleaned up the battery after a run of four weeks on the attle heaps and some tailings, with the result of 47|oz of 'nard squeezed amalgam, which is rather under our expectation. For the preßcut Draining will be discontinued, there being not sufficient water power available. The machinery throughout the mine is working well. Number of hands employed , 23 men and one boy. Depth of main shaft, 531 |ft."
