American Championship.-— The proposed match for the American championship appears to hang fire, the players not bslng able to agree about a place of meeting. The Derry News queries : - " Reed should remember that for the title of American Champion he is indebted to Barker's courtCßy in coming to Chicago. Why not return the favour ? " Stonewalling. — With reference to the adoption of what is know as the "stonewalling" policy in connection with draughts matches the South Australian Chronicle of the 2dth ult. states that in a recent association match between the Norwood and Goodwood Clubs— of which the result was a drawone of the Goodwood players found himself with oae king against two kings. There was half an hour of the allotted time to run, but it was impossible for the Adelaide man to administer the coup da grace within five moves. So the Goodwood player fixed his eye on the clock, and consumed six full minutes over each of hi 3 useless manoeuvres. The consequence was \ that the game — which was obviously a win for Adelaide— was declared " off." Mr Hogg an.l Mr H igginbottom both write to the Chronicle protesting against such proceedings as being calculated to injure thegame. It i 3 to be hoped that the association will take prompt steps to denounce, the " stonewalling policy " as an unsportsmanlike species of draughts tactics, and to prevent its adoption in any future association match. Norwood v. Southwark.— These clubs met on the llth inst. to play the second of their series of matches in connection with the South Australian Draughts Association. Southwark, which lost to Norwood some weeks ago, now availed itself of the right of playing with the minimum number of 12 represeLtatives. The match, which was one of the most interesting and moat stubborn that has yet been played, resulted in the victory of Southwark, the score being 15 wins to 14 wins, and 8 draws. The winners now lead by one point tor the premiership.— Australasian.
