ROXBURGH.
Scholastic. — Mr Bggleatone, of Lawrence, is making good headway with the new school building, which will do him credit. The committee will probably get possession of it in a week or so. The average attendance keeps up well, beinp, X am informed, about 120, and several scholars nave lately joined from Coal creek. There was no interval at midwinter, except for Jubilee Day. Clerical. — The usual services continue. The Presbyterians are talking of adding a spire of some 50ft in height, a chancel, and a vestry to their neat kirk. These additions will greatly add to the effect, and give it a finished and artistic appearance. There is also some talk of a six days' mission amongst the Methodists. Amusements.— Jubilee Day was marked by a somewhat unusual event— viz., the rendering of a service of song. " Robinson Crusoe," by a number of the school children, under the leadership of Mr Fish and Miss Anderson. The little ones went through the service very nicely, and were assisted by a number of local amateurs, the head teacher giving the connective readings. About £22 will be realised, a sum that ought to prove very welcome to the committee. I may mention that Mr James Oray has started a singing class. It is to be hoped his venture will prove a success.
