Prior to offering deferred-payment land in Budle, Kurow, Ofcara, and Waitahuna West districts, Mr Martin intimated that his anstruc- ■ tions were not to take the bid of any person •whose license had been surrendered to tiie Land Board. ' Mr Smith (of the IPerpetual Trustees Company) : You say that you are selling under the provisions of the Land Act ; I would like to tnow by what authority you can alter those -conditions of sale which you have read? Mr Martin : My instructions are what I have just said — not to take the bid of any who have surrendered their leases. Of course, whether it - is right or not is a matier for Mr Smith : Another place. ' Section 7, block 11, Hurow, was offered, and Mr Smith bid the unset. Mr Martin : Mr Smith, are you bidding for Mr Gabriel Hodges ? Mr Smith : lam atteading the sale, and have !!bid the upset price. Mr Martin : Show us #he declaration of the tjparty you are acting for? Mr Smith : Will you knock the section down Hfirst? Mr Martin: No. • Mr Smith : Well, I will wait, then. You rerfuse to take nry bid ? "Mr Martin : Let me see the declaration. The declaration signed by Mr Hodge having; r been handed to the auctioneer, he said he could mot accept the bid. Mr Smith then formally tendered the cheque, jacceptance of which was declined. The section, tLe improvements on which are valued at £325, did not find a purchaser.
