THE BACKING OF JULY. TO THff EDITOB.
Sib, — In connection with a paragraph which appeared in the last issue of the Otago Witness, stating that the horse July had been backed for the New Zealand Cup by a Canterbury sportsmen who is supposed to have an interest in him, that gentleman begs to state that, excepting a small amount taken by him about the horse for the race at the time of the last Canterbury spring meeting, and which has long since been laid off, he has not had a cent on the horse for the race in question. He also states that he has backed him for the Melbourne Cup. — I am, &c, G. Talbot. Lyttelton, September 15.
