LAND BOARD.

The Land Board met on Wednesday. There were present: Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), Duncan, Green, and Clark. BUDLE. Jeremiah O'Keefe applied to have his license for section 18, block VII, Budle, cancelled, and to be allowed valuation for improvements. — The board decided to forfeit the license for nonpayment of rent ; valuation of improvements to be made. MAUNGATUA. Allan Mann applied for a license to cut timber over 10 acres of bush land in block 11, Maungatua. — Th& ranger reported that there were no objections to the application being granted. — It was resolved to grant a license for three years at 7s per acre per annnum, payable in advance. WAIKAKA. Martin Collins applied for a lease of section 3, block IX, Waikaka, for agricultural purposes, — The ranger reported that there was lignite on the section, and also good stone suitable for metal. — The application was declined. LAWRENCE. The Lawrence Borough Council applied to purchase one rood of land near the storm-channel opposite block XLI, in the above township. — Consideration deferred. TH ANAL". Mr E. Melland, on behalf of Mr W. E. Melland, applied to be allowed to surrender the lease of run No. 394, Te Anau. Under the best management the death rate on the run was 20 per cent. Besides this there was no road to the run, and the wool had to be boated down the lake, and then carted over a very bad road. Had the lease been a long one, instead of only for seven years, he might have done something, in the shape of laying down English grass, to reduce the death rate. So far the climate had proved so bad that the birth rate was not sufficient to make up for the death rate. — Referred to the Government for their favourable consideration. OTAMA. John Wilson applied for a grazing right over section 19, block 11, Otama, on condition that he kept the land clear of rabbits. — Declined. Andrew Watts applied to purchase under deferred-payment lease section 2, block 11, Otama. — Approved. LOWER WANAKA. Renewal of certificate for agricultural lease approved .' Henry Maidman, sections 17, 18, and 19, block I. SHOTOVEK. James Whelan applied to purchase sections 21 and 24, block IX, and 64, block VIII.— To be recommended for the Governor's approval. TDTURAU. The New Zealand Mortgage and Investment Association applied for a lease of section 27, block X, lately held by Mr Meikle. — License granted to John Meikle forfeited for non-pay-ment of rent; similar license for seven years granted to the New Zealand Mortgage and Investment Association at a rental of £2 per annum. « CAIRN HILL Rent (£27 10s) due by John Butler for sections in block 11, Cairn Hill, on March 1 last being still unpaid, the licenses were declared forfeited.
