Middlethorpe started at 20 to 1 against him, and would probably not have won, but running very raw and queer, was responsible for a good deal of bumping during the race. He also swerved across the course near the finish, and compelled Webb to ease Roysterer, so that Middlethorpe was enabled to score a fluky win. The favourite was first on his legs, followed by RaTissante, The Jilt, Primrose 11., Palermo, Vista, and Tertius. On passing the grand stand Jilt was in the van, with PrestonEans drawing up, and the favourite falling ack rapidly. About seven furlongs from home Billycock shot to the front, attended by Lawminster and Vista. Soon after Bhouts were raised for Vista, but failing to stay, Primrose 11. came out, attended by Palermoand Alban, and Mr Peck's horse won by two lengths.
