HAWKE'S BAY STEEPLECHASES.,' Napier, June 28th: The Jockey Club's steeplechases to-day ware the most successful cross-country meeting yet hold in the Colouy. The weather was fine, the attendance, of the public large, and the racing vary gtaud, and not an accident occurred to mar the proceedings. Every race was open, and there were several fine struggles coming up the straight. For the big handicap a field of 10 started, and the winner could not be spotted until the leading horses were .within a few yards of the winning-poßt. Quamby also improved his'position. On coming out of the railway turn, Lunn, who had been biding his time, clobod with the leaders, and in rounding the turn for home got on terms with them. An exciting struggle resulted in Clarence securing a clever victory by a length from Quamby, with Loch Lomond third, a length behind Mount, and Ngata in very close attendance.
