Auckland, July 4. Among the passengers by the Sandfly, for Tonga, are the Premier of Tonga, the Rev. Shirley Baker, and Prince Lefon. At a special meeting of the Auckland Football Association to consider a telegram from the South re the football tournament at Wellington, the following resolution was carried : — "That the Auckland team cannot possibly leave before August 2 for the purpose of taking part in the interprovincial tournament, ■ for which at present there appear to be no arrangements." Wellington, July 4. The reported withdrawal by the Shaw, Sayill, and Albion Company of their offer for building steamers for a direct service to this Colony is authoritatively denied. Christchurch, July 4. It is reported on good authority that tho gold discovery recently mentioned as being made within 45 miles of Christchurch is on the High Peaks Station, about seven miles from the Whitecliffs railway-line. One of the gentlemen connected with the property has found a cradle near one of the creeks, and which had evidently been used for the purpose of washingthe dirt. Two small companies— the Pioneer and! Kohinoor — are proposing to work the diamondfield at Alford Forest, should the. specimens, sent Home prove to be genuine., They have* been registered. On Monday, at Benmore Station, on. the West Coast road, a boy 10 years old, whila endeavouring to catch a horse, was kicked on the head.
