(FROM OUR OWH CORRESPONDENT.) July 2. Road Board. — The ordinary meeting of the Portobello Koad Board was held on 30th June. Present : Messrs J. Macaudrew, jun. (chairman), T. Murray, G Anderson, J. Cross, W. Dickson, J. Christie, and B. Baynbird. — The application of Mr Francis for payment of an account for transfer of load line was* brought up. After considerable discussion, it was resolved that the account be paid. It was also resolved that a statement of the matter be forwarded to Mr Larnaeh, to be laid before the Government, with a request that the amount be paid by the Government.— A letter was read from Mrs Ridley in reference to road lines, and also letters from Mr J. Mocandrew, M.H.R., and the Crown Lands office dealing with the same road lines on Ridley's Penin aula. It was decided to communicate with Mr Macandrew, and ask him to look up any records that may be in Wellington bearing upon the matter —A letter was read from Mi Burt, calling attention to the bad state of the road at Anderson's Bay. It was decided to send the surfaceman to repair the road in question. —It was decided to procure a map of the district, cost not to exceed £3. - The Collector reported that dog tax to the amount of £3 15s had been collected .for the month.— A letter was read from Mr S. M. Clark, asking if any authority had b en given to anyone to remove timber from off the road through section 27. Mock 11, Otago Famnbula. The Clerk was instructed to inform Mr Clark that no one had been authorised to remove timber from off the said road. Several letteis were read from surveyors, offering their services to the Board. It was resolved to communicate mth the writers, in order to ascertain their terms.An application was received from Mr Francis, as^injr for liberty to erect a swing-gate across the road leading from Leith Walk towards Mr Christie's The matter was ordered to stand over until next m'pefcinc—A petition was read from a number of set lera in Broad Bay, asking for the road known as Boss* to bp repaired. _ It was resolvtd that £5 be expended on the road ia question.— A letter was read from Mr A Clark, asking that the road in block IV, Otago Penin" Biila, adjoiDinff his property, be closed. A letter was read from Mr Sheppard, also asking for the poition adjoining his property in same block to be closed Both matters were ordered to stand ovor for the pre. sent.— A letter was read from Mr T. Bates, calling the attention of the Board to the state of Leith Walk « was decided to put a man for two days on tho road to repair it— Messrs Muir, A. Clark, and Sheppard were present as a deputation, and requested the Board to repair the Hooper's Inlet beaen road. It was resolved that £7 be expended on the roaJ from the end of Hooper's Inlet road towards the embinltment.—lt was resolved that a letter be sent to the Government, requesting them to pay tho «urn of £100 which was promised for a road to the Native reserve on Cape Saundera, where the li K hthouse is situated, the road through Hooper's Inlet having been de! flfcroyed by the .carting of the telegraph poles to the lighthouse.— lt was resolved that an agreement be

signed between the Board and Mr Raynbird. for the deviation of a road line. — The question of a road to Ridley's Peninsula wa<* discussed, and it was resolved that, tho Chairman and Messrs Christie and Cross interview Mr Pickering, and see and arrauge the matter, and in the event of th>'ir not b -ing able to do so that the Boaid's souVitor* be instructed to wrhe to Mr Pickering on the subject —It was resolved that Messrs Barren, Macamlrew, and Larnach, M.H R.s, be requested to interview the Government, with the view of having the prisoners kept permanently at work on the Peninsula.— lt was resolved that a rate of three farthings in the pound be raised.— A number of accounts were passed for payment, aud the meeting closed.
