Mr William Watson last week received the following telegram from the legal manager of the Lankey Creek Cement Company : — " Lankey Creek Company's battery crushing proceeding steadily, putting through 25 tons a day. The cement being alluvia], the upijer plates arc not used ; c n-equently no weekly returns obtainable. Tho directors decided on crushing for four weeks from Monday, Juiie 18th, before ceauiiig 1 up."

Tho losral manager of the Cromwell Quartz-mining Company (Mr V. S. Reeves) leceived a telegvan on Saturday morning fr.>in the unauaver of the Colonial Bank, Cromwell, stivfcini; that a cake of gold weighing 2(sß<>z, the result of acuahingof about 400 tons btone, had been deposited with the B.uik thorc.

A Duni din shareholder on Tuesday roceived tho following toleynun from Mr Mo^s, le.'al manager of the Fiery Cross Company, Boattuans :— "Miniuir manager reports looking well : reef in intermediate 3ft, carrying good gold Will ata>l crushing |Ju'.v 9. Expect put through about 500 tons; average lioz."

Wellington, July 8. During the past; week considerable exuitt-ment has prevailed about tha Perawhiti goldfield, owing to the reported stiikitig of a large gold-bearing reef in the. Golden Crown claim. Shares in this Company havt rUen tr^m 4n to 10s At tho meeting of shareholders last nigbt Mr C. Mace announced that a rich reef, 4ft thick, had been struck, bearing stono superior to reefa which he hau known to crush 6oz to Boz to the ton. Mr Mace said that the mine manager confirmed thia. Shares this morning have risen to 17a 6d, and shares ia other claims are also rising rapidly.
