WEST TAIERI.

The Waipori Koad Board held ita usual monthly meeting on the 4th, when all the members wore present. Mr R. Brown, of Woodside, appeared on behalf of the settlers of that district requesting that a sum of money bo voted for rrpaira to roads in Woodside. Thrae members of the Board were deputed to visit; and judge as to what wa3 required, and I am happy to state thab at laßt we are to get something done to make our roads passable. I see tenders are called for forming and gravelling, and there is likelihood of this rankling sore being now hoaled. The Government Auditor hos inpected the Board's books, and given his certificate. The Board is likely to geb into difficulties over a portion of the main rosd in Maungatua subdivision, which has been used by them and kept in repair for many years, but which runs through a Church reserve. The Church trustees now call upon upon the Board either to give up the road or pay to them the sum of £140, which, aa there are only seven acres of road-line, is at the rate of £20 per acre. A public meeting of the ratepayers will be called to consider what is to be done in the matter in a fortnight, and the Board will decide atnextmeetiugwhat steps they deem it advisable te take. Tenders for some works were opened, but the amounts of the tenders being more than the Board were at present able to afford, no action was taken regarding them.

As the Waste Xands Board has for the present put a veto on the cutting the channel at the Waipori Eiver, and as several settlers interested in the matter appeared- to oppose it, the Board decided to do nothing in the matter in the meantime.

The new bridge over Mr Fulten's creek is now finished, and passed by the engineer. It reflects great credit on the contractor, Mr Campbell, of Lake Waipori. Indeed the two bridges erected by him— viz., the one over the Waipori River and the one just mentioned— are the most substantial under the Board's control. %We have had very rough weather during the latter end of last week : strong winds accompanied with snow, which covered Maungatua half-way down its eastern slope, and brought us to think we were only about to get winter. However, the past day or two have been very warm, with a alight touch of frost at night, but not sufficiently strong to do any harm.

The contractors are making good progress with the building of the new schoolhouse at Outram. It will be a large and handsome establishment, built on concrete foundations, on which are three courses of dressed Port Chalmers stone, the upper portion being of brick, \rith bluestone facings. When finished it will have an imposing appearanoe.
