CHARGE OF WILFUL MURDER.
At the City Police Court on Monday last before I. N. Watt, Esq., E.M. Jameß Smith was charged with having, on the 27th of September, wilfully and feloniously murdered his wife, Anne Smith. The prisoner pleaded not guilty. Mr Commissioner Weldon conducted tha prosecution. The accused was not represented by counsel. The evidence was substantially the same &s that given at the inquest, which was fully reported in our lastissue. The folio wing witnesses were examined :— A. M'Kenzie (deceased's father), Dr Maunsell, James Hugh Smith and Edward Smith (accused and deceased's sons), l>r .Roberts, resident surgeon at the Hospital, Mrs Broad, John Walrosley, Francis Marshall, Constable Bartlett, Sergeant O'Brien, and Charles De Carle.
The prisoner did not call any witnesses or make any statement, and was committed to trial at the present Criminal Sessions of the Supreme Court. The Court rose at 3.30 p.m.
