LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wednesday, Bth October. The Legislative Council met to-day to pass an Imprest Supply Bill, and while waiting for the measure to be sent up from the Lower Home, disposed of some formalandunimpertant bwioess.
RAILWAY CONTRACTS. The Hon. S ir F. D. BELL gavo notice to move, when affairs were settled, for a select committee to examine into and, report, with all information and details, upon all railway contracts let by the Ministry since the closo of the session of 1878.
IMPREST SUPPLY BILL,
An Imprest Bill (L 20,000) beinjr received, The Hon. Colonel WHITMORE said, as his successor was not present, he would, in the iatereats of the public Bervice, take charge of piha bill. The measure then passed all its stages. i THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
Sir F. D. BELL, or behalf of Mr Hall, a»ked the Council to adjourn till Tuesday, as Mr Whitaker, who was to lead the new Government in the U^per House, would not arrive till Saturday. The Hon. Colonel WHITMORE regretted that the new Government had been obliged to go outside the Council's ranks and create a new councillor expressly to represent the Ministry. Ho esteemed Mr Wbitaker, but had hoped Sir F. D. Bell or Dr Pollen would have succeeded him.
The Council adjourned at 3.45 till 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
