(FBOM OUB OWN 0OBBESPONDBNI8.) Auckland, October 3rd. The manufacture of hematite paint has been commenced at the Thames. The bribery and corruptioncase was resumed. Evidence was given to-day which corroborated the previous day's statements as to beer being ordered by Machattje, and consumed by the electors in the commictee-room, with other refreshments. Machattie applied to Mr Hurst's agent, Brooking, for L 5, half of the expenses for refreshment, but Mr Hurst refused to p»y, as he had not authorised them. Machattie's counsel raised several technical objections. His Worship reserved judgment till Thursday. At the Waste Lands Board to-day, it was decided to communicate to the Government the Board's desire that the Government would encouiage English farmers to settle here. Standan Carlyle Hall was further remanded on the charge of false pretences and altering a telegram, in order to get evidence from Dunedin.

October 4th. Proposals have been made to tbe Education Board to form agricultural classes.

October 6th. The frost has destroyed the potato crop at Onehunga. The lobs amounts to L2OOO. The 2000 trout from the Southland Acclimatisation Society were nearly all dead. Out of 4000 from Otago 2000 lived, and were put in Pokeno Stream.

The Thames people have built an Industrial andi Orphan Home, and removed to-day 43

children to Thames who had been sent up to the Auckland Institution.
