PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held on the 27th ult. PresentMessrs W. A. Wilson (chairman), Dick, M'Lennan, M'Kay, Green, and Dickson.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read And confirmed.

GORRKSPONDKNCK,

From the Chief Surveyor of the Provincial District, in re Mr Campbell's survey of a road through part of block 11, sa> ing that on examination of the plan it was found so very defective, and so incomplete as regarded the regulations, that he could not certify to it under the Public Works Act, 1876, and stating that the Board would have to get the road re-surveyed and properly connected. — Resolved to get the road resurveyed. from Mr Jas. Gwyn, Broad Bay, aßking the Board to open up the road to his property, section 7, block II. — The Clerk was instructed to request Mr R. Hay to make a survey of this road, and a re-survey of the road formerly surveyed by Mr Campbell. Prom the Uuder-Secretary of Public Works, enclosing petitions to the House of Representatives from Mr A. Clark and Mrs C. BVaser, praying that the Government would be p!ea=od to open up a road to block IV, there beinjr no road laid off to that bloik by the late Provincial Government, and saying tbat the matter was one within the province of tbe Road Board.- The Clerk w.»s instructed to write to tha Government inquiring whether, if the Board opened up a road to the block in question, the Government would bear the cost.

From Mr Henderson, Mr Larnach's manager, asking the Board to make some repairs to the Sanuvmount road and to the road leading to " The Castle," saying that the parts of the road complained of were a disgrace to the Board.— Received. From Mr Coneys, asking for some repairs to be made to the end of Leith walk.— The Inspector was authorised to expend £5 In improving the road by day labour. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector reported that the contract on Cowan's road had not been completed in a satisfactory manner, and that he had refused to pass it. — After hearing one of the contractors in reference to the matter, the Board declined to interfere as between the csnti actors and the Inspector. NEW WORKS. Tenders were ordered to be called for next meeting for taking out a water-tible on Dick and Rutherford's road; drains on eaoh Bide of the Sandymount road, near Jtt'Kay's ; widening and repairing the road between the Portobello road Church and Larnach's Castle.
