THE TORRES STRAIT MAIL.
Brisbane, September 28 bh. ' The Torres Strait Mail arrived at Cooktown yesterday, and brings the following items : — ' Replying to attacks upon the Government for apathy in Eastern affairs, Mr Bourke de nie'd that the Government show indifference, and read extracts to show that the statements in the Daily News were, in many respects, wild fables and coloured expressions of partisanship. LAn alarming outbreak of small-pox has occurred at Blackburn. Three streets are quarantined in consequence. Several agrarian outrages have occurred in Ireland. The Rev. Arthur Watson, " Protestant clergyman of Killown, on his return from ■Kenmare, found his wife drunk. He shot her. An < unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Prince Gortschakpffj and due •to political motives, has been made at Berne by a young Russian.
' Fearful disclosures have been made in the Bravo case.
