The game was contested for many more moves, and ultimately won by White, by means of his superiority in Pawns. Notes by Mr. Mouat. \ (a) Unusual. PtoQ 4is the best reply. • (b) Q B to X 5 appears preferable. (c) An error in judgment. Better to havo played QKtto X B 3. The move made is worse than nseloss. The proper line of play for Black was to advance the Pawn on the Q's sido against White's castled King, and supporting them with the Q and Books, he would have obtained o very formidable attack. (d) This Xt is well placod, and hampers Black for some time. (t) Black should have played P to X Xt 8, or P takes P. Either would have been preferable to the movo made. (f) Well played. 1 After this the exchaugo of the Queen for tho Books appears to ba Black s only resource. g) Apprehonsivo of a mate by B to B 8, &&, should he move the Queen ?

By the Torrei Strait Mail, which arrived at Cooktown on the 28th ult., it ia stated that "fearful disclosures" have been made in the Bravo case. On the 4th of August the second inquest was proceeding, and was then expected to last another fort* night, there being Ihen nearly 20 witnenses to be examined. The evidence which hud been taken so far snowed that the deceased Mr Bravo died from poison. Mrs Bravo hud confessed to an improper intimacy with a Dr Gully before her marriage to deceased. Dr Gully is aged 66 or 67. Bravo was acquainted" by hia wife, before their marriage, of the circumstance referred to, and he made her take a solemn oath that she would never divulge the fact. Unpleasantness, which was aggravated by anonymous letters, howevor, arose, and in his fatal illness Br»vo said, " I havo taken poison for Dr Gully." Mrs Bravo is a daughter of Mr Robert Campbell, of Bnscot Park, Berkshire, of which county he has been High Sheriff. It appeared in evidence that one of Mrs Bravo's servants said on the eve of her marriage to deceased that Mr Bravo would not survive the marriage by four months, and, singularly enough, this prediction was fulfilled. The casse has excited great sensa. tion in England, aad has attracted much notice in New South Wales, and further detail will no doubt be received with in« teresfc.
