The writs for the General Election will be issued on Wednesday 22nd inst. Three accidents have occurred on raceoourses within a few days m the South through horses colliding with posts. At the Inver oargill meeting a jockey was thrown and narrowly escaped serious accident, at the Taieri Rubrette unseated her rider, and at Winton the rider of Visionary met with instantaneous death. An ex-resident of Gore has been distinguish ing himself m tho 01.1 Country (says the Gore Standard). A Wigtown paper to hand states that Mr Duncan M'Nab wus oh.irged m the local court with " furious driving of a motor oar m Wigtownshire, and .. ref usiug to stop when signalled." The defendant was subjected to 24 minutes' examination, the ca?e occupying three hours, and the sheriff, m dismissing the charge oorapliruented the motorist on his skilful driving! Mr Andrew Carnegie consulted an Edinburgh bailee as to whether he should go m for a golf course at Skibo.
