Otautau Magistrate's Court.

(Before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M) Wednesday Nov. 8. crvn. oases. Reynolds Bros, farmers, Heddon Bush, sued William Hazlett, farmer, South Hillend. Mr Macalister appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Stout for defendants. The amount claimed was £60. It appears that the plaintiffs are the owners of a farm at Heddon Bush, and that defendant, without license or authority, had trespassed upon the plaintiffs land with engines, waggons and horses, and had kindled, or allowed to be kindled, fires, whioh spread over plaintiffs' land, and did a great deal of damage to their property. Judgment was given for plaintiffs for £25, costs of court f£B, witnesses expenses £1 0s 6d, solicitors' fees £2 2s, total £81 2s 6d. Of this amount £9 10s had been paid into court. Several other cases had been struck out or adjourned till next court day. THEFT FROM A. SHOP. A young girl about 15 years of age, was charged on the information of the police, with the theft of a pair of stockings and two pieces of sateen, the property of Bassett Dickson Ferrar, Otautau, and valued at £1 4s. It seems that the girl had gone to the , shop for some milk, and, while the owner's back was turned, she purloined the articles mentioned. The accused pleaded guilty, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, the stolen property to be returned to the owner.
