Aparima Methodist Church.

ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL.

The anniversary services m connection with the above church were brought to a close by a social, held m the Aparima Church, on Wednesday evening, 11th October. Tne building was crowded to its utmost capacity, although the night was so stormy. The Eev. Wm. Beckett occupied the chair- A letter of apology was read from the Rev. T. Burrows, of Wallacetown, who was prevented from being present owing to special meetings being held m his church. The report was read by the churph secretary, Mr T. Coombes, and it showed that faithful work had been done during the year, the congregations being well maintained. Reference was also made to the decease of Mrs Stephen James, senr, m August last. The thanks of the trustees were accorded to Miss James for her services as organist, and to the local preachers for valuable pu'plfc ministrations, and Mrs Carrlck's successful work among the children was gratefully acknowledged. The treasurer's report showed a debit balance of 18s 7d.

The programme, which was a 1 n,'thy one, was not conducted -until 10.45 p.m., and consisted of the fallowing items : — Four anthems by the Nightcaps Methodist Church choir, under the baton of Mr Jackson ; three selections by the children of the Aparima Methodist Sunday School, led by Mrs Carrick ; three quartets by Nightcaps and Otautau friends; duets by Miss Bates and Miss Lee, Misses Rowe ahd Lee, and Messrs Thomson and Greig ; solos by Mr H irdwick, Miss Dodds, Miss Alice Keen, and Mr Jackson ; recitations by Miss May Sinclair and Miss Meehan. Mr Wellbrook accompanied himself on the concertina to three or four selections, m which the congregation joinedAddresses were also given by the Rev. T. Tait of Nightcaps, and the chairman. During the interval refreshments were handed round, and were very much appreciated. Votes- of thanks to the friends who had contributad the programme we. c proposed by Mr E. Clent, and 'secondel by Mr Kellow, and carried with acclamation, and a most successful evening's entertainment was brought to a close by Mr Tait pronouncing .the benediction.
