SOCIAL AT LUMSDEN.
y _ "-"«; y :' The Lumsden Mutu-il Improvement Class closed. the winter seasion with a social on October 6th m the Public Hall. IVtr H. J. RioMell (president) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance. A lengthy programme of music, songs, recitations, etc., was contributed by ladies and gentlemen present, and every item met with a hearty reception. Misses Lymburn and Small contributed a duet, and songs were sung by Mrs Riddell, Dr. Mcllroy, Messrs Clapp, Fraser, and McDonald. Readings by Mrs Stancombe, Rev, J. Lymburn, and Mr F. Reid, gave great satisfaction, and several selections on Mr J. Fraser's phonopraph were much appreciated. Messrs Fraser, Betts, and Thomson acted as accompanists. The ladies of the society handed round refreshments, after which dancing- was indulged m till the early hours of the morning. The singing of the National Anthem, and the passing of the usual votes of thanks, brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
