While he thought that there would be undoubtedly a change m the personnel of the new Parliament, he did not think the balance of parties would be materially altered. The Government would support the candi-.--fctiire of Mr Daniel Stewart for the Jlutha seat, and of Mr Robert McNab foi Mataura, but as neither Mr Murdoch or Mr G-lfedder seemed inclined to withdraw from the contest for the Wakatipu seat, the Government left the selection of a candidate to the electors, only trusting that the electors would not throw their votes away on a man who had no chance of election. Mr Seddon contended that the estimates of the revenue had so far' been correctly gauged, and the best quarter of the year had yet to come. .The financial barometer pointed to prosperity. t The lambing was the best for many years, the price of wool was higher, and dairying could look forward to a most prosperous year.
