WAIRIO NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The action of the Winton Borough Council m excluding the Record reporter from its meetings has caused considerable surprise here. When the people consider the trivial incident that led up to this action on the part of the Council they are inolined to think that men of such sensitive feelings should never have entered publio life. Anyone with common-sense could easily see that the incident of "mixing" the seats at the Council table was only reported m the lighter vein. I may state that the enterprise of the Recobd proprietor m getting such full reports of the proceedings of the various local bodies m Southland is greatly appreciated m this district, and it is to be hoped that the Winton City Fathers will think better of their action, and decide to have their deliberations again reported. Three local anglers who visited the Aparima on the opening day of the fishing season secured 114 fidh, all m good condition.
I understand that Mr D. McPherson, Lite sawmiller of Otautau, has d. finitely decided to contest, the Wallace seat at th Geur4 Elect : on m the Government interests. As Mr McPherson is well and popularly known throughout the electorate, his o ances of return should be excellent.
