[ An inquest on the Austrian petty officer who hanged himself from the funnel of the warship Panther at Auckland was opened last Monday The Austrian consul protested against the holding of an inquest as a breach of international law, and Capt. Bosca- I wen, A. D.C, waited upon the coroner with a telegram from the Minis- 1 ter of Justice instructing him not to hold an inquest as the Government i did not desire to strain the letter of international law too far.
