BALFOUR BRANCH. The Balfour branch of the Farmer' Union met on Mbnday evening last. There was only a small attendance, Mr G. Stuart presiding; A vote of sympathy was passed to the widow and family of the late Mr J. S. The Waiau branch wrote that artificial manures should be carried on the railways at the loweet rates, and that valuators should leave a copy of the valuations with the owners or occupiers oi land. No action, however, was taken. Mr Dickie brought up a grievance he had against the Cnunty Council for pjeveming him carrying out improvements to his farm m the direction of dr.»in ploughing, by unduly harassing a traction engine driver. — The Chairman held that tue Council was quite right m" tha action it took, and after mnch d.scussion, the subject was adjourned until next meeting, when Mr Dickie intimated that he would table v motion disapproving of tbe Council's action.
