Southland Land Board.

The monthly meeting of the Southland Land Board was held on Thursday last, 2 ith inst ; present Mr John Hay (Commissioner of Crown. Lands), and Messrs A. Kinross, J. Mclntyre, D. King an-1 J. McLean. In regard to run 188, Wairio, Rodk. McKenzie wrote stating that he consider, d the present year to year tenure unsatisfactory, and desires that the lease be offered for a terra of years to expire along with lease of run No 148, m 1917, and that it be burdened with valuation for improvements made. — • Run to be classified and offe el next year for a term of 1 1 years, burdened as requested. Ranger Campbell reported inspection and valuation of fencing on sections 64, 65, 90, 91, 92, and 113, Waiau [ S.D., and sections 18, 14, and 89, jotahu Settlement; valuing seotions ! 64 and 65 at 6s 8d per acre, 90 and 91 at 10a, and 92 and 113 at ss.— [ Resolved that sections 18, 14, and 39, K)tahu Settlement, be re-advertised as grouped, and open to selection after 80 days' notice; that the ranger's valuation for fencing be adopted, and that sections 64, 65, and 118, be grouped and offered on the optional system at the ranger's valuatiou ; also tbat sections 90, 91, and 92 be grouped, and offered on optional system at prices stated by ranger. Donald McLaren applied to purchase for cash, sections 118, 64 and 65, block 2, Waiau, at 6s per acre.— RI6C6IV6Q The Southland Education Board requested that section 1, block 8, Makarewa, on which the Board school buildings are erected, be permanently reserved as a school site. — Request complied with. The Rev. A. McDonald again applied for ten acres out of Dairy Factory reserve on Merrivale Settlement. Left m Commissioner's hands to deal with. Wm. Blair, former lessee of section 26, block 2, Waikawa S.D., wrote stating that he was willing to take £25 for improvements made by him — Section to be re-offered, with reduced valuation for improvements of £25, and Commissioner's action m advertising approved. , Ranger Campbell reported on R. Ellis requested that a public right of way be reserved through sections 154 and 155, block 7, Waiau, m order that access may be obtained to the river bank from the road north of the sections.— Resolved that right-of-way 50 links wide be reserved, and that gates be placed where directed by the Commissioner. Ranger Collins reported on J. W. G. Mclntyre's application to purchase sawmilling timber on section 90, block 2, Longwood, estimating the value at •£65 2s. — Application granted on payment of amount mentioned as royalty. J. G. W. Mclntyre was granted a sawmill site of ten acres out of section 21, block 2, Longwood, on usual conditions bf £1 per annum, subject to any prior rights, I The N.Z. Pine Co. was granted protection for water-race through section 40, block 5, Mabel Hundred. I. W. Raymond was granted an extension of 12* months' time to remove, flax from portion of section 10, and reserve fronting section 12, block 8, Waikawa, and Chas. H. Pickett was ' granted two months for a similar purpose m regard to section 364, Hokonui. It was resolved that Wm. Watson be granted a grazing license over 50 aores m Longwood district, being balance of abandoned S.M. area No. 195aL at 6d per acre per annum, without valuation for any improvements. Thos. Anderson was granted a grazing license over four acres of river bank reserve, Hamilton Burn, at 16s per annum. H. Last was granted- a grazing license over sections 2a, Ba, and 3b, block 8, East Winton, at 15s per annum. R. W. Robson was granted right to remove any slabs on section 11, block 8, Waikawa, ou payment of £1, right to lapse if section selected. Jas. Thompson, Half Moon Bay, was granted permission to build a launch on Ulva Island. John Melvin was granted permission to lay a tramway line through section 24a, block 9, Toetoes, at £1 per annum, subject to resumption if land is required for public purposes. C. F. Moore's application for grazing license over section 127, block 10, Lindhurst, was granted at £5 per annum. Carmichael Bros, asked if a lease of 14 or 21 years, with right of cultivation, would be granted over seotion 8, block 10, Oteramika Hundred. — Mr Kinross and Ranger Campbell to report. The following applications for land were granted: Wm. D. Harris, sees. 8 and 4, blk 12, Oteramika 'Hundred ; Catherine Harris, sees 46, 48, 50 to 54, 60, 61 and 62, blk 8, Oteramika Hundred ; W. D. Lepper, sec 728, blk 49, Hokonui ; J. Fisher, sec 40, blk 5, Mabel Hundred ; Richard Munro, jnr., sees 59, 60, 63, 64, and 67, blk 5, Oteramika Hundred ; Jas. Munro, a cs 68, 69, 70, 77 to 81, blk 5, Oteramika Hundred ; S. A. Hodgson, sees 1 to 5, 7 and 8, block 5, OLeramika Hundred ; Naomi Campbell, sea 8, b'k 8, Waikawa; and W. M. Barker, srcs 15, 18, 21, 23 and 25, blk 5, Oseramiki^Handred**

Tapper's application for 26 acres m blk 18, New River Hundred, was granted, subject to consent ol Minister. The following transfers were ap--proved : Sec 1, blk 58, Longwood, J. Cosgriff to W. Anderson ; 110 Waiau, R. Story to W. Richards ; P.R. No. 858, Lake County, James Milne to Hugh McKenzie and Sons, and P,R.'s 438 and 452, Lake and Southland Counties, McKenzie and Milne to H. McKenzie and Sons. Snrrendef m regard to sec 10, blk 8, Alton, was accept* d, also of.greenstone quarrying license m Milford Sound. N. McLeod applied to surrender sec. BE, blk 9, Lindhurst, on account of shingly nature of ground.— The Commissioner brought up report of members of Board appointed to inspect the section, which was to the effect that the whole of the eection is ploughable, but a few shingly patches came to the surface. — Application refused. The Receiver was authorised to pay over to the Southland County Council, thirds and fourths accrued to 30th April, 1905, amounting to £840 8s 7d. Tbe rest of the business was transacted m committee, and the Board adjourned.
