Starr-Bowkett Society.
PUBLIC MEETING AT FAIRFAX. The provisional directors of the proposed Starr-Bowkett Building Society visited Fairfax on Monday evening, and held a meeting m the schoolroom. Mr George Meek occupied the chair, and introduced the delegates from Otautau. Mr Joseph Swap, sbairman of directors, explained fhe nature of the meeting, and called on Mr Fisher, interim secretary, to lay before, those present the principles and objects of the society. In an address extending over the best part of an hour, Mr Fisher gave an acconnt of the ground work of the society, and the success attending similar societies elsewhere, punctuating his remarks with examples from the InvercargiU society. Questions were afterwards invited, and having been satisfactorily answered, 14 of those present subscribed 2ft shares, which brings the number sold almost up to 400. Any persons m the Fairfax distriot who were unable to attend and who wish to become shareholders, can leave their names with Mr E. Kttfco, Mr Geo'. Meek, or Mr A. H. Officer;
