N.Z. Farmers' Union.

WAIANIWA BRANCH. The Waianiwa branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union met on the 14th inst., Mr D. McPherson, Vice-president, occupying the ohair. The Colonial President forwarded a circular on rural 'duration, but the members thought That a good deal was being already do; io m that direction, and that no rccounnendation was needed. A communication f i om the Riversdale branch, m favour of the removal of ragwort from the schedule of noxious weeds, was disapproved. The attitude of the Waicola branch, re tho carriage of artificial manures on the railways at the lowest rates? was agreed to, also •lhat relating to land valuation. Members saw no reason for altering the present rules regarding the part honorary members should take m meetings. The matter of holding a social was held over till next meeting, The Employers' Liability Act came up for discussion, and to obviate the necessity of both farmers and threshing-mill owners having to insure for the same thing, the opinion was expressed that the Act should be so amended that ail workmen should insure themselves: Fears were expressed that tbe moni-y required for the old age pension scheme would yet become a burden to the taxpayer. An opinion was expressed m favour of a universal pension, and that, to meet the case, the Government should pay into a separate fund a small registration fee, say ss, on the birth of each child. It was decided to ask Sir Joseph Ward to deliver a political address m Waianiwa before the general election.
