0 - A meeting of the provisional directors of the above society was held on Monday evening, for the purpose of receiving the report of the secretary as to the result of the canvass for shares, and determine what steps should be - taken to bring the society's claims hhre r

fore the residents of Nightcaps, Wairio., Drummond and Fairfax. The application for shares has far exceeded expectations, tbe number being 841 shares for lose than three weeks' work, all of which, with the exception of 20, are taken up m Otautau, and this can be brought up to 400, with very little delay, should -the directors decide to allot -that number to Otautau. If any of those who have been missed m the canvass, wish to take up shares, they should make immediate application to the secretary. It was resolved to hold public meetings as follows : Fairfax, Monday, 28th inst, Nightcaps, Thursday, 81st inst, Drummond, Monday, 4th September. It is the intention of the provisional directors to attend these meetings m a body, and the secretary was authorised to engage the public halls at the places named, to advertise the meetings, and send oiroulara to all the residents, The utmost satisfaction was expressed by the provisional committee at the hearty and enthusiastic way m which the society has been received, fully 120 residents m Otautau taking shares. It is confidently expected that the shares will be subscribed well within the time allowed the oommittee for promoting the scheme.
