THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION.
tHvi:;'.YTiiiNG is pfogressing favouriablylor the International Exhibition ;'to be held at Christchurch next year. 'The GovePHTUL'nt are taking a keen 'interest m the movement, and, be'side.^ making a substantial grant to/.vard.>'thc cost, have appointed a to assist the committee • which Ins all the arrangements m .hand. The Exhibition will be on a "scale never be' ore seen m the colony. : A large portion of North Hagley "Par lt has been reserved for the purpor.e, and will include Victoria Lake •and a portion of the river Avon. 'Efforts are now being made to have "all the -principal countries of ■ the world represented at the -Exhibition, and the various consuls, commissioners, and agents-general have been written to on the subject. Every Pi.^USt- ''6/;,. this colony will be • displaced to the best-advantage, and particular!} 7 . -attractive exhibits are expected: uv the arts "and manufactures departments. The mineral resources •of New -Zealand will also find a /prominent place, and the various industries .will be afforded every facility of impressing the thousands who will flock to ; the Exhibition. The comjort •■ a n.d •■convenience of the ex;p:;cted multitudes will also not be ; neglected. Elccti-ic trams will run incessantly from the city to the Exhibition, the .latter . being lit with electricity;.. ■throughQ-.if. Gondolas and pleasure.boats of graceful shapes will ply on the lake and the river, and an endeavour is being made to secure the services of Sousa's famous American* band to lend an additional churm to the scene. Jt will be remem bcred that a great attraction at the .last Intercolonial Exhibition m ■Christchurch (1H32) was. the Austrian Band. It is proposed, also, to erect a huge pipe organ, to cost £3009, m • the conceit room, which will become the piopcrly of Christchurch City when (he Exhibition is. over. These r are 6aiy a few of the attractions .which may be looked for at the Intercolonial, Ex.hibit ; oa, and it is 'safe to say that Novoaiber, 190G, .the opening month, will be eagerly awaited from one e'-'d ot the colony to the other.
