A Gravelling Bee.

The Gravelling Bee promoted by tbe OtPUtau School Commit'.ee for improving the playground was held on Wednesday, 17th instant. Unfortunately for its entire success the weather was very bad and this prevented a number of teams from a distance attending. Notwithstanding this drawback, huwever, thirteen teai"s were present from the following settlers. Massrs VV. Affleck, Buick Bros., H. S. Gould, E. Henderson, J. Henderson, R. Henderson, N. A. McLaren, J. Lindsay, Geo, Low, J. Powell, H. Ravenscrott, A. Roy find T. J. 'Walker* As each dray had a tip-top team, a great deal of work was got through Messrs Bowen, Durnett, Bell, J, and H. Dimmock, E. Matheson, W. McEwan, A Mclvor. A. McDonald, James Noble and Vf. Paterson were present and rendered ' valuable assistance- m loading and spreading. Messrs Dickson and Gunn were also m attendance, and rendered invaluable aid. Mr Scatter, chairman of the comittee, exercise! a general supervision of the work, and to his untiring energy is largely attributable the day's success. Messrs Sweetman, Kelly, and Fold provided dinner for all those engaged, and expressed their regret that owing to the bad weather they had been debarred from providing for double the number. Messrs Diokson, Culling and Chilton also provided refreshments during the afternoon, and the result of tbe day's work is a great improvement to the school grounds. To finish the good work begun, it is contemplated having another similar gathering during the summer. The committee expressed their grateful thanks to all those instrumental m promoting / 4he success of the day.
