Inv rcargUr, Thursday*, 18th May. Again a quiet week' has 'to be reported m the local grain market,- the oat market being p»vticularly"lifeless. During the past week there have oeen no inquiries from outside markets, and tbe merohanis here do not seem to ba anxious to carry heavier stocks of oats than they at present hold. The result is that the stores at port are rapidly filling up with grain stored by growers, who are. now, anxiously waiting the time when cheap freights will be announced by the direct', shipping firms, and they will try their luck> on the Lonlon market. The quality continues to be very good, the bulk of the grain noiv forward is B grade. -This grade is a much higher standard this yea? than it waa last year. Very few FAQ grade are coming to hand. This grade has also been risen. Merohants anticipate that it will be fully another month or six weeks before a O grade can be formed, as at present there are very few bags of discoloured o&fcs coming to hand, but m another month, time. there should be sufficient forward to establish a standard for the grade In a half-hearted way merchants continue to offer Is 5d to Is s£d for good clean oat 3on trucks at waysido stations, and perhaps will give-another half-penny if the station is close to port. The milling x wheat market U also quiet, though 'plenty of samples are offering. Ihe growers sesni : to? be banging back for 3s for their Wheat, and. as local millers will not go beyond 2s lOd for the primest. very little business is resulting. The wheat this year is m fine order. Very little chick Wheat is offering so far.
