Oxford Jockey Club. — The annual meeting of this Club will be held at Mr Ingram's auction room, on Friday evening, January 10th. As several important matters are likely to be brought forward, we hope to see a good attendance, Eangiora Sports. — Our readers' attention is directed to an advertisement m another column, which gives full particulars of -the above Sports. School Picnl?. — The annual picnic to the children attending the West Eyreton School took place at the Ashley Gorge on Friday, December 20th. The fife and drum band accompanied the party, and added greatly to the days enjoyment. Mr W. Crysell, jun., and Mr Martin presented a number of toys for the children's sports, the Committee and some friends provided the refreshments. Public Tea. — The pubHc tea on New Tear's Day, at the Free Methodist Chapel, East Oxford, will, no doubt, not only be a source of attraction to a large number of persons, but also a quite a boon to visitors at East Oxford. Oddfellowship. — The usual fquarterly summoned meeting fook place at the Lodge room, East Oxford, on Saturday last, when there was a splendid attendance. A good deal of business was got through. The election of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows : — N.G., Bro. Smith; V.G., Bro. Jones; Warden, B r o. Dee; Guardian, Bro. Eiiowles; Elective Secretary, Bro. Knowles; Treasurer, Bro. Lough. Lecture.— The Bey. H. Williams continued his series of lectures at St. Andrew's Church, East Oxford, when there was a good congregation. The rev. gentleman chose his text from I Corinthians, xv c. 24s verse, and pointed out that the second coming of Christ was predicted both m the Old and New Testaments. The preacher raised a good many points m favor of his argument, and altogether gave a first-class address, which was listened to with rapt attention. The subject chosen for to-morrow evening's address is, " The dead of 1889."
