MELBOURNE MARKETS.

The ' Australasian ' reports on the above market as follows : — The local breadstuiis market, business has been rather dull, millers showing but little inclination to buy wheat, and sales have only been made on a limited scale. For such parcels as changed hands from 5s 4d up to 5s 5d has been paid, but no large parcels have been quitted. At auction off qualities realised from 4s 2d up to 5s 2d., while good to prime milling were sold at 5s 4jd to 5s sd. The demand for flour has been somewhat restricted, and only small lots have been disposed of at £11 5s for stone-dressed, and up to £12 15s for bakers' lots of patent roller. In malting barley some fairly good sales have been made at from 5s 2d to 5s 3d. Oats have had fair business, and sales have been made of New Zealand at from 3a lid up to 43 ld for small lots of prime. Dun oats have been quitted at up to 4s 2d. Victorian oats have been sold at 3s lid for ordinary lots. Receipts of oats last week comprised 5,640 bags. Peas have been steady at up to 5s for small lots of prime, but no large parcels have been quitted. Receipts last week were 397 bags. Tick beans have been placed at 5s 3d. Bran and 'pollard have had good demand at late rates. At a meeting of millers and agents it was decided to fix the price of bran at Is 2d, and of pollard at ls 3d, owing to the shortness of supplies. For grass seed there has been a better demand, and considerable business is pending. Oatmeal has had some attention at up to £25 for small lots. Manger hay has been sold at up to £7 10s, with a good demand. Onions have become firmer, and sales have been made at up tn £32. Potatoes have also become firmer, while supplies have somewhat fallen off. Good sales have been made at from £5 to £7 for best samples.
