|TJ. L. Sullivan,, tbe pugilist, who was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment for fighting Kilraia, m £m*>rica, has appealed to Congress. At Berlin, Weber, the President of the Weafcphalian etrikers, has been sentenced to
seven months' imprisonment on the charge of inciting to riot. A mass of rock fell at Quebec on Sept. 21 , burying a number of residences. So far as is known thirteen persons have been killed, and a hundrea are entombea m the ruins. H.M.S. gunboat Lily, stationed m North American waters, has been wrecked at Newfoundland. Seven of the crew were drowned. A terrible earthquake took place m Japan on August 30, by which 31 houses were demolished and 15 persons killed. The Chinese Privy Council proposes to expel all Americans m Chinese employ. Restrictions have been imposed on Amerioan merchants and missionaries m the Treaty Ports. Affairs m Servia are m rather an unsettlea state. Owing to an accident to one of the men employed, a Nihilist plot to murder the Czar of Russia has been frustrated. A wholesale slaughter of Christians has taken place at Crete, an island m the Mediterranean. The agent of a bank at Lyons has overdrawn his account to the extent of 1,290,000 franca (£53,750.)
