Improved Whiting. —We hate seen a number of specimens of improved styles of writing by pupils of Mr A. Enutzin, who is now staying at Mr Mitchell's boarding house, and we think those who desire to improve themselves m this direotion would do well to take a few lessons. Obchestiul Society. — A show of enthusiasm m these days is pleasant to record, and the zeal displayed by tbe Ladies and gentlemen of the Orchefetral Society is worthy of all praise. On Thursday evening the members gathered from Carleton, West Oxford, and View Hill, for rehearsallat the Eatt .Oxford Town Hall. Our readers may expeot a great musical, as well as dramatio, treat at the entertainment on Wednesday, September 18th. Pbofebsob De Lobee.— The ever-p pular Professor De Loree, whom we ref • am from describing as the ever-green, only because he might not take it as a compliment, is going to give his entertainment at East Oxford Town Hall, on Friday evening, September 13th, m aid of the East Oxiord District School Prize Fund. The objeot iB m itself so excellent that we are sure there will be a full house. Apart from this, however, tbe Professor is a most capable and experienced " showman," catering for all tastes, whether juvenile or adult, without vulgarity or dullness m a single instance. His views of scenes m the East and elsewhere are really worth seeing, his oomic pictures are just as funny as they " make 'em,*' and his conjuring tricks are performed with the dexterity of an old hand. Professor De Loree thoroughly deserves the testimonials which we observe on his advertisements.

iii;. Li _iius. — ihe match played on inurs d y evening last, at the Working Men's Club, resulted m a victory for East Oxford, who vo i three ("atnes out of live The West was represented by Messrs Candy, Edwards, Harbidge, Paget, and Dr Rees ; and the East by Messrs Weeber, Hmna, Hooper, Mitchell, and Gundry. Opi ions differ as to the quality of the play ; so who shall decide ? Rumor declares that some of the leading lights were not as bright as usual ; however, some good scores were made, and the beaten team are game to the last, consequently another match has been arranged. Mv Finimy. —We understand that Mr Finlav, whose name has been prominently before the public for some time, m connection with his proceedings against the Oxford Road Board, has at length moved from the section which has been the cause of so much sickness m bis family, and rented a house at Bennett's. It is to be hoped that this change of residence will bring renewal of health to all concerned.
