DIRECTORS ENTERTAINED

A HIKUTAIA FUNCTION

That good work is sometimes appreciated was shown at Hikutaia last night, when the local suppliers to the Thames Valley Co-operative Dairying Company quietly organised a supper to be given to the directors of the company as a recognition of their good work during the past twelve months.

The prime mover in the matter was Mr S. Bax, and it was arranged that the function take place after the district meeting held in the hall to discuss creamery matters. The directors present were Mr A. C. Hubbard (chairman), Mr Wallis Jones, and Mr A. K. Alex-

ander.

Mr S. Bax presided, and he proposed the toast of the " Directors," and expressed his pleasure at their attendance that evening.

Mr Hubbard in reply said he had been six years chairman of directors of their company, but that was theNfirst occasion on which the shareholders had

shown in such a manner their appreciation of the directors' work. He was proud to be a dairy farmer and proud to be connected with their company. He could take his mind back to the time when farming was considered to be the lowest thing a man could take up, but now, with all the latest scientific appliances, dairy farming is one of the most profitable occupations that a man could go in for. Their success during the past season was due to the fact that they had a competent staff and good organisation, and the directors would use their best endeavours to have those good results continued in the luture.

Mr Wallis Jones in replying said they had a good chairman of directors, a good manager, and a good secretary, and that accounted for their success He was dead against the company going in for home separation.

Mr Alexander also replied and said he had been five years on the board oi directors and had always received every courtesy from the chairman and the other directors. He was against home separation because he knew they could not make as good a butter from home separated cream as they could from •creamery separated cream.

Other toasts were the " Cow-testing Association," proposed* by Mr Percy and replied to by Mr Byrne, the " Press," proposed by Mr Ellis, and the " Hostess," proposeed by the chairman.
