THE POLISH CAMPAIGN. • GENERAL WRANGEL'S VICTORY. Piesa Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. CONSTANTINOPLE, July 14. Details of General Wrangel's victory on July 6 show that General Wrangel got wind of an intended enemy cavalry raid and laid a trap into which the cavalry fell. Tho cavalry was surrounded and received a withering fire. Out of 8000 only 1500 escaped. The remainder, except 1000 who were taken prisoner, were killed, and 40 guns and the whole of the transport were captured.—Renter. THE SOVIET AND* PEACE. NEW RUSSIAN PROPOSALS. LONDON, July 14. The new Russian proposals include an offer to restore confiscated factories to their legal owners, permitting the latter, including many British, to re-enter Russia and start afresh. The Moscow executive pleads that tho Bolshevist invasion of Persia was undertaken without its consent, but the British Government is unlikely to accept that excuse, and will require specific assurances.—Times. VILNA TANGLE. A THREE-CORNERED SITUATION. LONDON, July 14. (Received July 15, at 11.45 p.m.) The Morning Post's Warsaw correspondent reports that the three-cornered situation between tho Poles, Lithuanians, and Bolshevists is complicated by the Lithuanian declaration that rather than have the [Bolshevists in Vilna it will itself send troops to capture Vilna from the Poles. Nevertheless, it is known that Lithuania ever since its birth as a State has been anxious to have Vilna as its capital. Once the Lithuanians come to Vilna the Poles will have to fight to recover the city. Out of a population of 200,000, 60,000 have fled from Vilna during the last 48 hours, remembering the experience of 1919, when the Bolshevists occupied the city for four months. . Those remaining are awaiting the next turn of the military situation with anxiety wondering whether the Poles, Lithuanians, or Bolshevists will become their masters. —A. and N.Z. Ca'ole.
