RIFLE SHOOTING
KIWI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. | OPENS FOR THE SEASON. On Saturday the Kiwi Defence Rifle Club opened the 1314-15 shooting season with a match married v. single members. The conditions were five shots and a sightcr at 200 yds and 500 yds, but, owing to the rain, the shorter range only was utilised. The result- of the match was a win for the benedicts, and the following are the six highest scores on each side: — ■Married. Rifleman R. K. Johnston 24 Rifleman T. Jones 23 Captain Dempster 21 Rifleman Fair ig Rifleman Parsons 17 Rifleman Burgess 17 Single. Rifleman W. Maekay 22 Rifleman R. Fogarty 21 Rifleman F. Clayton 21 ■ Rifleman F. Silvius 18 Rifleman W. Meikle 18 Rifleman W. Latta 17 A match for ladies, for prizes presented by the club, was also held, and the ladies shot remarkably well considering the prevailing weather. The conditions were five shots and a sighter at 200 yds. The scores wore as follow:—Mrs M'Oullock 19, Mrs F. Burgess 19, Mrs Jones 17, Miss Grant 17, Miss Mitchell 16, Miss Atkinson 14. Miss Dempster 8. At the conclusion Captain Dempster presented the prize.? to the winners in the ladies' match, and, on behalf of the club, thanked the visitors for their attendance and for their interest in the club.
