OBITUARY
SIR J. P. WHITNEY. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, September 26. (Received Sept. 27, at 5.20 p.m.) The death is reported of .Sir James P. Whitney, Premier of Ontario. Sir James Pliny Wihitney was born at William,burgh, Ontario, on October 2, 1843, so that ho was in his seventy-first year. Educated at the Cornwall Grammar School, he practised as a barrister at Morrisburgh, Ontario, and in 1?8S was elected! to the Legislature as the representative for Dundas County. Ho was a lieutenant-colonel m tho Reserve Militia. From 1897 to 1905 ho was Leader of the Opposition in tho Provincial Parliament, and after the defeat of the Ross Government in the latter year was called upon to assume the reins of Government, which ho held at the time of his death.
