STATE ADVANCES DEPARTMENT.
OPERATIONS BEING CURTAILED. BECAUSE OF THE WAR. (Feom Our Own Courespondent.) WELLINGTON, August 2. While no official announcement has yet been, made on the subject, it is understood that the operations of the State Advances Department in all ite brunches are being slowed down to some extent in the meantime, in view of the extent to which the money market is affected by the disturbed state of European politics. So far as rho local position is concerned, plenty of monoy is available to meet all reasonable- demands. Of the finances of the Advance Department, it ie stated that they have never been in a better RAILWAYS STATEMENT. The Railways Statement, which includes the report of the General Manager upon the dominion lines, will bo laid before Parliament within a fow days, in time to bo used in the financial debate, which is expecte'd to open on Tuceday. LOCAL GRANTS. - The Local Grants and Subsidies Bill will probably bo introduced this week. It will provide for & board so ae to take such graute out of the sphere of political influence.
