SAWMILL WORKERS.
VARIOUS PROPOSED REGULATIONS. (Fsoit Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, April 25. At the monthly meeting of the executive of the sawmill workm last jniglit a number of remits from the Dunedin Timber Workers' Union, proposed to be forwarded to a conference of delegates at Wellington in July, were considered. Tlie executive favoured most of the pioposnLs, but members were not inclined to support a proposal to have the Workers' Compensation ior Accidents Act amended to provide for payment of M wages to a worker temporarily incapacitate! by accident, as this would probably make the insurance rate* unduly high. The meeting was also agaiust an attempt to lorce millers to make payments weekly, as this would probably lie unworkable in hush districts and would embarass millers considerably. It was decided to suggest the addition of a remit to the effect that an ambulance chest, containing lwndages, splints, antiseptics, etc., he kept at each mill, with printed directions of the procedure to be taken in the case of certain accidents. The secretary reported to the meeting that though the industry was slack this 1 year, the union had more money from contributions and more members than it. had ever previously had.
