CUTTING UP TEVIOT ESTATE.
MR JAMES ALLEN'S ARGUMENT. Our own correspondent, telegraphing fvom Roxburgh on Saturday, states that Mi' James Allen, M.P., speaking at Roxburgh on Friday night on the subject of the furth-cr prosecution of t!» Lawrence-Rox-burgh railway, ,'innauneed, in the cour.-.e of a forceful spceoh, that Mr Roberts, the proprietor of 'l'eviot Estate, had decided to cut it up into 600-acre farms in the coming spring. Mr Roberts, he said, would rosorvi 1000 acres arcuud his homestead, but would cut up the rest of Ihe estate, and so confident was ho in the land tint he was prepared to finance any suitahlo men anxious to go on tho land. Brief mention was made of the fact that Teviot bullocks on more than one occasion have topped the market at £1 over the average price. The wool readied ihe lop price of lljd. Cocksfoot grown Ihsro weighed 161b, when the average Bank's Peninsula crop went to 141b. The place was eminently suited for close settlement, and Mr Roberts had decided on the previous night to cut it up.
The announcement was received with loud and continued applause.
