NORTH-EAST VALLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of this council was held last evening and attended by Messrs Myers (mayor), M'Grath, Green, ADdcrson, Sparrow, M'Gregor, Brinsley, and Black. HKPORT3. Tho Works CommittC3 reported that the shingle had been removed from the creek under Lindsay's bridge and spread on Clerk street, St. John's Wood, a distance of four chains, at a cost of £6 4s 6d. They recommended that B. Maddens tender for carting be accepted.—The report was adopted. The Inspector of Works reported re the road next 6he Presbyterian Church. The total cost of the work would be:—Excavating and carting 1408 yds, £36 13s 6d; forming 12 chains at Us, £i 83; 12 loads screenings at 6s, £3 12s;—total, Jflß 13s 6d. The cost of forming the zig-zag footpath in CaJder street would be £4 10s 6d.—Consideration of the first matter was held over, and it was resolved to form the zig-zag footpath: The Inspector submitted a special report-on the Ferguslie drainage stating the cost of the work would likely be £132 8s Sd. -Referred back to the inspector to see if he jCan devise a less expensive scheme. The Finance Committee reported that they had asked the con-table to report to the council the' nights on which any of the public lamps are not lighted in the borough ; in the event of the neglect continuing they recommend that a deduction be made from the monthly gas accounts. The bank overdraft was £1335.—Adopted.
CORRESPONDENCE. Oscar David wrote asking the patronago of the council to an entertainment to be given by his pupils on Saturday the 30th iust.-Granted. James Howard wrote drawing attention to tho dangerous state of the road at the corner of his property.—Heferred to the inspector.
