AUCKLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

Auckland, April 27. A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held to-day, amongst those present being several Auckland members of the House of Representatives. Tho object of the meeting was to submit a recommendation to members prior to their departure in respect to the North Island Trunk railway, gold milling interests, pansioDer settlement, San Francisco mail service, and the bankruptcy laws. The following resolutions wero agreed to:—"1. That in the opinion of the chamber the North Island Trunk railway should be completed so as to connect with Stratford in order that communication with Wellington be completed. 2. That this chamber approves of the pensioner settlement, scheme as being most beneficial to the settlement of the country districts, |and hope that members will urge upon the Government the necessity of taking action in favour of its establishment. 3. That the Government be requested in the ensuing session to aid our goldfields—(a) by the opening up of tracks for prospecting, (b) by granting subsidies for deep level prospecting, (c) by giving bonuses for the extraction of ores, (<*■) by granting assistance to schools of mines, (c) by improving tenure in respect to gold mining companies." Various amendments in the bankruptcy laws suggested by the chamber were placed in tho hands of members of the House.
